Fondari Maize Trial

August 2025 – El-Shamarqah Village, Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, Egypt

Trial Introduction

The field trial of Fondari maize was conducted in El-Shamarqah, representing typical local farming conditions for maize cultivation. The plot covered 10 qirats (approximately 0.5 feddan), providing enough area for accurate observations and close monitoring of the variety’s performance.

Observations During the Trial

During the season, the trial was carefully monitored by the agronomy team. Each plant was observed for vegetative growth, ear formation, kernel filling, and root development. Photos and notes were taken regularly to track progress and identify both strengths and weaknesses.

Traits Observed
  • The plants showed very good growth in terms of leaf size and greenness, staying healthy until harvest. Plant height was acceptable, though not the tallest in the trial.
  • Medium but strong enough to support ears.
  • Very high, indicating strong ear-setting ability.
  • Excellent length, well-filled kernels, and uniform row formation.
  • Very good, providing strong support and efficient nutrient uptake.
Conclusion
  • The Fondari maize hybrid stands out as one of the strongest hybrids in the market due to its combination of high yield and excellent ear quality, suitable for both grain and silage production.
  • The plants exhibit exceptional vegetative vigor, with dense, dark green foliage that remains active throughout the season, enhancing biomass accumulation and extending the harvest period.
  • The main ears are large and well-filled, with a high percentage of double ears, ensuring consistently high yield per hectare. This hybrid also shows strong resistance to common pests and diseases, minimizing crop loss and providing stable production even under challenging conditions.
  • Additionally, Fondari is well-adapted to local farming systems and produces uniform, marketable ears, making it a preferred choice for growers seeking reliable, high-quality harvests.
